Finding the right couples therapist isn’t easy.

First, there’s simply admitting it might be good to see a couples therapist, period. Then there’s convincing your partner to see one. And then there’s the fact that not all couples therapy is created equally.

Meet Amy–

founder spoon couples therapy, LCSW

I’m a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois and an emotionally focused couples therapist.

My clients will tell you therapy with me is a mix of relentless empathy and intense focus on helping you and your partner build a more loving relationship with each other (and yourself).

my style

Passionate. I love what I do and it shows in the enthusiasm I bring to helping you.

Empathetic. For therapy to work, you have to feel your therapist truly gets where you’re coming from. My big heart shows up in-session, and that’s a good thing.

Hopeful. I believe in the power of loving connection. I also believe in our ability to change. I will hold onto that hope for you sometimes when it feels too hard for you.

Focused. I like getting results. And I focus intently in-session (and outside sessions) to help you achieve them.

My background

I earned my MSW from Loyola University Chicago. Since graduate school, I’ve focused most of my professional training on Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

I have a JD from the University of Michigan Law School and I practiced law for several years long ago. I’ve also worked as a speechwriter and an advertising creative director. But I finally found my calling when I decided to become a couples therapist and discovered EFT.

I’ve been married for over 26 years to my best friend and husband, Mark. Together, we have three children. My life feels very full. And I love it that way.

“If you can reach out and hold onto each other as you face life’s dragons together, every dragon you face makes the bond of trust and love between you stronger.”
